Brownie Cake with Chocolate Nut Frosting
Ingredients
1 cup water
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup shortening
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
Directions
Combine the water, butter, shortening, cocoa, cinnamon and vanilla in a saucepan. Heat to boiling while stirring until the butter is melted.
Combine the flour and sugar in a mixing bowl. Stir in the cocoa mixture. Blend in the buttermilk, eggs and baking soda. Pour the batter into a lightly greased 15-1/2x10-1/2 inch baking pan.
Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cake tests done. Frost while warm.
Chocolate Nut Frosting
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter or margarine
6 tbsp. milk
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 box (1 lb.) powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts
Directions
Combine the butter, milk and cocoa in a saucepan. Heat to boiling while stirring until the butter melts. Remove from heat.
Stir in the powdered sugar, vanilla and nuts. Pour over the warm cake, spreading evenly. Cut the cake into bars.
