Chocolate Custard

Ingredients
3 squares (3 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
1-1/3 cups each half-and-half and milk, scalded
4 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
chopped nuts
chocolate syrup (optional)

Directions
Add the chocolate to the milk mixture and stir until the chocolate melts. In a bowl beat eggs, sugar, vanilla and salt until well blended. Gradually stir in the hot chocolate milk.

Pour into a 5-cup shallow baking dish, cover loosely with foil and set in a pan filled to 1/2-inch depth with warm water.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F. for 30 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Chocolate will form a thin layer on bottom and top during baking. Cool on a rack, then chill overnight.

Sprinkle with nuts and serve with chocolate syrup if desired. Serves 6 to 8.
