Chocolate Custard Sponge Pudding
Ingredients
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 cups milk
4 tbsp. flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. melted butter or margarine
3 eggs, separated
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
Directions
Chop or break chocolate into small pieces. Add to milk in top of double boiler. Heat over boiling water until chocolate is melted. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
Combine flour, sugar and salt. Add butter and mix well, then blend in egg yolks. Add hot chocolate mixture gradually, blending well. Add vanilla.
Using an electric mixer beat egg whites until they form soft peaks. Gently fold into chocolate mixture. Turn into a well greased 8-inch round baking dish. Place in a pan of hot water and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until set. Serve warm or cold with cream if desired. Serves 6 to 8.
