Buttermilk Rolls

Ingredients
1 cake compressed or dry yeast
2 cups buttermilk
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
4 to 5 cups flour

Directions
Soften yeast in 1/2 cup buttermilk at room temperature. Add sugar, salt and baking soda to remaining buttermilk. Add yeast mixture. Mix in 1/2 of the flour and beat. Add shortening and the rest of the flour. Knead.

Roll out 1/2 inch thick, cut with cutter and place on an oiled baking sheet 1/2 inch apart. Brush with melted shortening and let rise until doubled in size.

Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
