Cherry Blossom Bread

Ingredients
8 oz. Maraschino cherries, drained & chopped, reserve liquid
2 cups flour, sifted
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. sugar
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
3 cups shortening

Directions
Mix together the sifted flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar.

Mix enough water with the liquid reserved from the cherries to make one cup. Add the cherries, egg, walnuts and shortening to the cherry liquid. Add this cherry mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir only until mixed. Pour into a loaf pan and allow to stand for 30 minutes.

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes.
