Chocolate Bavarian Pie

1 envelope plain gelatin
2/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1-3/4 cups milk
4 oz. sweet cooking chocolate
3 eggs, separated
1 tsp. vanilla
9-inch graham cracker crumb pie shell

Combine gelatin, 1/3 cup sugar, salt and milk in a double boiler. Add chocolate. Cook over hot water until chocolate is melted and gelatin is dissolved. Blend well with an egg beater. Add a small amount of the chocolate mixture to slightly beaten egg yolks, then gradually add to chocolate mixture. Cook and stir for 3 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes. Beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually add remaining 1/3 cup sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Gradually fold in chocolate mixture, blending well. Add vanilla and spoon mixture into pie shell. Chill 2-1/2 hours or until firm. Serve with whipped cream.
