Chocolate Chip Date Torte
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1-3/4 cups flour
2 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup dates, chopped fine
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
6 oz. chocolate chips
1 cup nuts, coarsely chopped (walnuts, pecans, almonds, etc.)
Directions
Cream the butter, margarine and sugar together. Add the eggs and mix well.
Sift together the flour, cocoa and salt. Mix together the dates, boiling water and baking soda and let cool.
Gradually add the flour mixture and the date mixture to the creamed mixture and mix well. Lastly, add the vanilla.
Spread the batter in a 13x9 inch pan, top with chocolate chips and chopped nuts.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
