Corn Bread
Ingredients
1 cup yellow corn meal
1 cup flour
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/3 cup soft shortening
1 egg
1 cup milk
Directions
Combine the corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt and mix well. Cut in the shortening until well blended.
Beat the egg and milk together. Mix with the dry ingredients until just blended. Pour into a well buttered 8-inch square baking pan.
Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes. For sweeter corn bread, add 2 more tablespoons of sugar.
