Dover Cake

Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. mace
1 cup butter or margarine
1 lb. confectioner's sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup milk

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Sift the flour, salt, baking powder and mace together into a bowl and set aside.

In a large bowl, using an electric mixer at medium speed, cream the butter or margarine. Gradually add the sugar, continuing to beat for at least 5 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, beating for one minute after each addition.

Combine the milk and vanilla. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk to the butter mixture, starting and finishing with the dry ingredients and beating thoroughly after each addition. Spoon the batter into a greased 10-inch tube pan.

Bake for 1 hour, or until the cake tests done. Frost with your favorite butter frosting.
