Harvest Apple Cake

Ingredients
1-1/2 cups apples, thinly sliced
3/4 cup molasses
1/3 cup shortening
1/2 hot water
2-1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1-1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. mace or nutmeg

Directions
Slowly cook the apple slices in molasses until tender. Cool.

Melt the shortening in hot water.

Sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, mace or nutmeg, then gradually add the hot water and shortening mixture. Stir in the molasses and apples.

Pour batter evenly into a shallow baking pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until the cake tests done. Serve warm.
