My Best Gingerbread
Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2-1/2 cups sifted flour
1-1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 cup molasses
1 cup hot water
Directions
Cream the shortening and sugar together. Add the egg and beat well. Sift the flour, baking soda, spices and salt together. Combine the molasses and water. Add alternately with the flour mixture to the creamed mixture.
Grease a 8x8x2 inch baking pan and line it with waxed paper. Grease the waxed paper too. Pour in the batter.
Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes. Cool for at least 5 minutes before removing the gingerbread from the pan.
