Potato Chocolate Caramel Cake

2/3 cup butter
2 cups sugar
1 cup hot mashed potatoes, unseasoned
2 squares chocolate, melted
4 eggs, well beaten
2 cups flour, sifted
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
3/4 cup milk
1 cup chopped nuts, rolled in flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and add sugar gradually, creaming together thoroughly. Combine hot mashed potatoes, melted chocolate and well beaten eggs. Add to the creamed mixture and blend well. Sift flour with baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Add to the potato mixture alternately with the milk. Stir well after each addition. Add flour-covered nuts and vanilla. Pour into 3 greased 8 inch pans.

Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes. Cool 5 minutes in pans, then turn out on rack. Frost when cool with a butter cream frosting.
