Strawberry Angel Pie

3 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
dash of salt
1 cup sugar
1 package (3 oz.) strawberry flavored gelatin
1-1/4 cups boiling water
1 cup sliced strawberries
1 cup whipped cream

Beat egg whites with vanilla, cream of tartar and salt until frothy. Gradually add sugar, a bit at a time. Beat until stiff peaks form. Form a shell with this in a 9-inch pie plate, making sure that the sides are high. Bake at 275 degrees for 1 hour.

Dissolve gelatin in hot water, then chill until the consistency is like an unbeaten egg white. Fold in berries and whipped cream. Chill until the mixture mounds slightly when spooned. Pile into the meringue shell.

Chill for 4 to 6 hours or overnight. Garnish with more whipped cream and berry halves if desired.
