Sweet and Sour Cabbage
Ingredients
1 small head cabbage
3 tbsp. shortening or bacon drippings
1/2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. wine vinegar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. dry dill or thyme
Directions
Wash and cut the cabbage into strips about 1/2 inch wide.
Melt fat in a large skillet, toss in the strips of cabbage and sugar. Mix well, cover and cook over a low heat for 15 minutes. Add the vinegar, salt, pepper and dry herbs. Cover again and cook gently for 5 minutes longer. Serves 4.
