Swiss Steak

Ingredients
1/4 cup flour
1 tsp. salt
dash pepper
2 lbs. round steak, cut 1-inch thick
2 tbsp. shortening
1 can (4 oz.) mushroom pieces
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1/2 green pepper, finely chopped
1 cup tomatoes, canned or fresh

Directions
Combine flour with salt and pepper, then pound into meat. Brown meat on both sides in shortening in a skillet. Add remaining ingredients.

Simmer, covered, on top of range for 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Or transfer to a casserole dish and bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours. Serves 4 to 6.
