Thunderbolt Chocolate Cake

2/3 cup butter or margarine
1-1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup cocoa
2-1/4 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup water
2/3 cup sauerkraut, rinsed, drained and chopped
whipped cream

Combine butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla and cream until light and fluffy. Sift together the cocoa, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the flour mixture alternately with the water to the butter mixture. Fold in sauerkraut. Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 8-inch cake pans.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until cake tests done. Fill and cover with whipped cream.
