Monte Cristo Sandwich
Ingredients
12 slices white bread
Swiss cheese slices, cut in half
6 slices boiled ham
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1/3 cup milk
butter or margarine
powdered sugar
strawberry preserves
Directions
For each sandwich, cover a slice of bread with a layer of cheese, a layer of ham and an additional layer of cheese. Top with a second slice of bread.
Combine the eggs and milk. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture then brown in butter or margarine in a large skillet.
Place the sandwiches on an ungreased baking sheet and bake at 425 degrees F. for 15 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with strawberry preserves. Makes 6 sandwiches.
