Mother's Biscuits
Ingredients
2 cups cake flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
2 tbsp. butter or margarine
2/3 cup milk
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Mix the flour, baking powder and salt together in a mixing bowl. Cut in the shortening and butter with a pastry blender or a fork until the mixture has the consistency of a coarse meal. Mixing with a fork, add enough of the milk to make a soft dough.
Shape the dough into a ball and turn out onto a floured surface. Pat with floured hands until the dough is 1/4-inch thick. Fold over in three layers and pat to a 1/2-inch thickness. With a floured 2-inch cutter cut out 12 biscuits. Place on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake at 450 degrees F. for 12 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on the top.
