Simple Biscuits
Ingredients
2 cups flour, sifted before measuring
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup milk
Directions
Sift dry ingredients in a triple sifter. Add shortening and blend with a fork or a pie dough blender. Mix in milk.
Flour a waxed paper covered board and place dough on it. Knead a little then roll or pat out to 1/2 to 1 inch thickness. Cut with a biscuit cutter and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Brush tops with milk.
Bake at 450 to 475 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
