Sour Cream Walnut Cake
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1-1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs, separated
3 tbsp. grated lemon peel
2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup sour cream
1 cup semisweet chocolate pieces
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 tbsp. orange juice
2 tbsp. lemon juice
Directions
Cream 1 cup sugar with the butter. Add the egg yolks one at a time and beat well after each addition. Stir in the lemon peel.
Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add the sifted mixture to the creamed mixture alternating with sour cream, and blending well after each addition.
Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold into the batter along with the chocolate pieces and walnuts. Turn the batter into a greased and floured tube pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes.
While the cake is hot, baste with a sauce made by combining 1/2 cup sugar, orange juice and lemon juice brought to a boil.
