Vanilla Caramels

Ingredients
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup (1 cube) butter
1-2/3 cups evaporated milk
1-3/4 cups light corn syrup
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 cup finely chopped nuts

Directions
In a 3 quart sauce pan, combine the sugar, butter and evaporated milk. Bring to a boil over high heat while stirring constantly. Lower the heat to medium and stir until the candy reaches firm ball stage (244 to 248 degrees).

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and nuts. Pour quickly into a buttered 9-inch square pan. Cool and cut into 1 inch squares. Makes about 80 pieces.
