Walnut Caramels

Ingredients
2 cups butter or margarine
4-1/2 cups brown sugar
2 cans (12 oz. each) evaporated milk
2 cups light corn syrup
2 tsp. vanilla extract
walnuts, chopped

Directions
Prepare a cookie sheet by lining with foil or waxed paper then greasing with butter. Sprinkle a layer of walnuts onto the prepared cookie sheet.

Combine in a large saucepan the butter, brown sugar, milk and corn syrup. Cook until the mixture reaches 230 degrees F (firm ball stage). Remove from heat and add the vanilla. Stir to mix well.

Pour the hot mixture over the walnuts on the prepared cookie sheet. Allow to cool before cutting into 1-inch squares.
